Windows SIG Meetings

The Windows Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (though usually not in December). Meetings run from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Meetings are (beginning September 2005) held at the Florence Bain Senior Center, which is also the site of CMUG's general meetings. On the maps below, the Bain Center is marked with a large red B.

The Bain Center is on the west side of Columbia, near the intersection of Cedar Lane and Harpers Farm Road. Directions appear below.

The address of the Bain Center is 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia MD 21044. Ruth Keeton Way is a small street off Beaverkill Road, which is off Harpers Farm Road. As you can see on the diagram below, the Bain Center is near the Columbia Athletic Club and the Harpers Choice Village Center. The phone number is 410-313-7213.

The main entrance to the Bain Center is on the south side of the building. You can park in front of the center, or in the rear. The Windows SIG will probably meet in the small meeting room in the northwest corner of the bulding. From the front entrance, walk to the back and turn left. The meeting room is at the far end of the hall on the righthand side.

(Or you could ask the night manager there, usually a guy named Steve. He's generally quite helpful.)

Directions to the Florence Bain Senior Center:

From downtown Columbia:

1. Take Little Patuxent Parkway west to the light at Harpers Farm Road.
2. Turn right (north), and travel 0.6 mile to the light at Beaverkill Road (third light).
3. Turn right at Beaverkill Road. The Athletic Center is on your right; the Bain Center is ahead on the left, next to the Winter Growth building.

From Clarksville, Olney, and west:

1. Take Route 108 east to the light at Harpers Farm Road.
2. Turn right (south) onto Harpers Farm Road, and travel 1.1 miles to the light at Beaverkill Road (fourth light).
3. Turn left onto Beaverkill Road. The Athletic Center is on your right; the Bain Center is ahead on the left, next to the Winter Growth building.

From Burtonsville, Laurel, and east and south:

1. Take US Route 29 north to Route 32 west.
2. Take Route 32 west to the Cedar Lane/Sanner Road exit (first exit after US 29).
3. At the exit, bear right to head north on Cedar Lane.
4. Follow Cedar Lane till it ends (about 2.5 miles) at Harpers Farm Road.
5. Make a right onto Harpers Farm Road, then an immediate left onto Beaverkill Road. The Athletic Center is on your right; the Bain Center is ahead on the left, next to the Winter Growth building.

From Ellicott City, Baltimore, and north and west:

1. Take I-70 to US Route 29 south OR
2. Take I-95 to Route 100 west to US Route 29 south.
3. Exit US Route 29 at Route 108 west.
4. Take Route 108 west for 3.6 miles to light at Harpers Farm Road.
5. Turn left (south) onto Harpers Farm Road, and travel 1.1 miles to the light at Beaverkill Road (fourth light).
6. Turn left at Beaverkill Road. The Athletic Center is on your right; the Bain Center is ahead on the left, next to the Winter Growth building.

You can park pretty much wherever you want (except by the apartment building near Harpers Farm Road). Turn left onto Ruth Keeton Way to pull up in front of the center or to park behind it. You can also park in the lot in front of the Center, or over near the Safeway, or by the Athletic Center.

The main entrance to the Bain Center is on the south (Harpers Farm Road) side.
